Wedding: Allen-Herring

Sarah Emily Allen and Fleming Carr Herring were united in marriage at 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the First Church of Christ, Washington, North Carolina.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Buel Gregory Allen of Washington.  She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Billy Lene Waters Sr. of Washington and the late Mr. Billy Lene Waters Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel William Allen of Pantego.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rouse Herring of Wilson.  He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Lee Fleming, Jr. of Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Haven Herring of Roseboro.

The double ring ceremony was officiated by Mr. Stuart Ray West.  Soloist was Mrs. Teresa S. Mays. Wedding music was provided by Mr. Michael Morgan, organist, Mr. Doug Cushing, trumpeter.

The bride, escorted by her father, wore an ivory lace formal gown.  She carried an all-white bouquet of hydrangeas, calla lilies and roses adorned with her Maternal Grandmother’s pearl brooch.

Jeanne L. Niederhauser served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Hillary R. Herring, Elizabeth G. Jarvis, Natalie R. Vail, Kristen N. Whitehead and Laura T. Zenns.

The Register Attendant was Caitlin M. Kelly and Program Attendants were Lauren T. Ferguson and Caitlin M. Lowe.

Richard Rouse Herring served his son as best man.

Groomsmen were J. Daniel Allen, J. Forbes Herring, John N. Herring, William H. Herring, Parker L. Jones, Robert E. Kirkland IV, and Kristopher R. Westmorland.

Ushers were Thomas W. Eller, David B. Fox and Robert T. Newcomb.

Pages were Gage Braddy and Gabe Niederhauser.

Mrs. Sandra W. Gerard served as mistress of ceremony.

A reception was hosted by the parents of the bride at the Washington Yacht and Country Club.

Prior to the wedding, an after-rehearsal dinner was hosted by the parents of the groom at Yankee Hall Plantation. A dance hosted by parents of the groom, family and friends was held immediately following.

A Bridesmaid Luncheon was held on August 23 at The Meeting Place in Washington and was hosted by Mrs. Valinda Leggett, Mrs. Kim Van Essendelft, Mrs. Joy Jarvis and Mrs. Joy Hubbard.

Pre-Wedding bridal parties included:

Friends of the bride hosted a bachelorette weekend May 3-5 in Wrightesville Beach. The couple was honored with an engagement party in Greenville hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Eric Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Mart Benson and Judge and Mrs. Galen Braddy. Friends of the bridal couple hosted an engagement party in Raleigh on June 22. A bachelor weekend was given by friends of the groom in Charleston, SC on July 19-21. A wedding shower was held on June 29 at the home of Mrs. Jean Lee in Washington and was hosted by friends of the bride.

The bride graduated from Peace College.  She is employed at Gregory Poole Equipment Co. in Raleigh.

The bridegroom graduated from North Carolina State University and is employed at Clancy and Theys in Raleigh.

After a honeymoon trip to Antigua, the couple will reside in Raleigh.
