After scoring 13 runs against conference foe Hobgood in a shortened contest last week, the Terra Ceia baseball team stayed hot at the plate and poised on the rubber on Monday, sliding by Northeast 6-4.

Chase Furlough got the call for the Knights, and the 6-foot-3 sophomore was impressive early. After surrendering a leadoff single to Eagles’ catcher Troy Futrell and a walk to Connor Hurdle, Furlough settled down and retired the next three batters – two via the strikeout.

Offensively, the Knights jumped out to an early lead after a leadoff single and a collection of steals by freshman Austin Roscoe plated the first run of the game. In the second inning, Tyler Hendrix an Austin Wynne both singled and came around to score.

However, Furlough would need all the support, as the Eagles fought back with a three-run third inning of their own.

Both pitchers came out of the fourth without administering any runs, but with the score tied, 3-3, Terra Ceia matched Northeast with a three-run fifth. Roscoe, Furlough, Hendrix and Clint Sickert all picked up hits in the inning. It was the third time Roscoe reached base.

Northeast tacked on another run in the bottom half of the inning, but in the end, it wouldn’t be enough. Hendrix came in and shut the door on the Eagles rally, picking up a save in the process.

The Knights will hit the road for the second-straight time on Thursday when they face off against Ridgecroft.
