PINETOWN — A sixth-inning, two-run home run from senior Alex Adams was the difference in a 7-5 Northside win over East Carteret, which entered the contest with a perfect mark of 8-0, Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Rachel Lang pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Panthers, allowing one run (unearned) and striking out five, while sister Kelsey Lang started and pitched the final 4.1 frames, giving up four runs and striking out seven.

After pulling ahead to a 4-1 lead, the Mariners powered their way to a four-run fifth inning, knotting the game at five. Following the Adams home run in the sixth, the first of her Northside career, Kelsey Lang bounced back and finished strong, holding the Mariners scoreless in the final frame.

At the plate, Adams finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Rachel Lang went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Junior Mackensi Swain also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

With the win, the Panthers improve to 7-0 heading into Thursday’s matchup with rival Southside in Chocowinity.

 

PAM PACK SOFTBALL ROUTS FARMVILLE CENTRAL

FARMVILLE — The Washington softball team defeated Farmville Central, 13-0, in a shortened five-inning Eastern Plains Conference matchup on Tuesday.

Senior Haley Wright continued her storybook season at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and a walk. Junior Chrissy McKissick also had a big day at the dish with three hits, including two doubles and an RBI, and sophomore Meghan Moore recorded two hits as well.

Senior hurler Haley Hutchins pitched five innings of one-hit ball, striking out eight and dropping her season ERA to 0.92.

With the win, the Pam Pack enters Spring Break with a record of 5-1 (2-0 EPC). The team will participate in D.H. Conley’s Easter Tour in Greenville from Saturday to Monday.

 

RIVERSIDE GOLF EDGES NORTHSIDE IN REMATCH

BATH — The Northside golf team fell to Riverside by 12 strokes at the Cypress Landing Golf Club in the second meeting between the two teams on Tuesday. The Knights finished with a score of 386, while the Panthers shot a 398.

Riverside’s Clark Gurganus’s score of a 77 was good for first place individually, while Northside’s Tucker Mooring finished in second place with a score of 85. Riley Van Staalduinen’s shot an 86, which earned him a third place finish overall. Other notable Northside scores: Trenton Clayton (105), Evan Cornelius (122) and Hunter Williams (126).

The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow at the Nags Head Links when they take on Manteo in the final match before Spring Break. Tee off is at 2 p.m.

 

PACK TENNIS BOUNCES BACK WITH WIN OVER SOUTHWEST EDGECOMBE

After falling to Oakwood last week, the Washington tennis team defeated conference foe Southwest Edgecombe, 9-0, on Tuesday to improve to 7-1 (5-0 EPC).

Playing pro-style sets, Conor Wilkins (10-0), Holt McKeithan (10-2), Zack Pagnani (10-1), Eric Crozier (10-0), Mac Skillen (10-0) and Dhruv Patel (10-1) all knocked off their respective opponents in singles. The doubles pairs of Wilkins and Pagnani (8-2), Skillen and Crozier (8-4) and Patel and William Tate (8-1) all made quick work of the Cougars.

The Pam Pack is back in action tomorrow in Farmville against the Jaguars.

 

WASHINGTON GIRLS SOCCER TAKES CONFERENCE OPENER OVER BEDDINGFIELD

The Pam Pack girls’ soccer team knocked off Beddingfield, 6-2, in the Eastern Plains Conference opener Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Caitlyn Scott finished the day with four goals and an assist, while freshman Sydney Walker and senior Warner Little notched a goal apiece. Goalkeeper Emily Alligood came through with four saves.

With the win, Washington improves to 6-4 heading into Spring Break. The team will face Northeastern in Elizabeth City on April 14.

 

WASHINGTON GOLF WINS SIX-STRAIGHT MATCH

SELMA — The Washington golf team picked up its six-straight first place finish on Tuesday, winning the fourth Eastern Plains Conference meet with a score of 339 at the Cardinal Country Club.

Farmville Central finished just one stroke back of the Pam Pack for second place and the host North Johnston ended in third place with a score of 356.

Southwest Edgecombe’s Cole Jefferys, the reigning conference Player of the Year, took first place with a score of 220, while Washington’s Williams Page shot a season-high 86, moving him behind Jefferys for the top season score in the conference.

Other notable Washington scores: Beter Birdsong (82), Eric Lovenberg (85), Tony Lovenberg (86) and Simon Amaxopolus (93).

After Spring Break, Washington will head to the Farmville Country Club on April 13 for the fifth Eastern Plains Conference Meet of the season.
