TUESDAY ROUND UP: Washington soccer blows out Riverside

The Washington soccer team made quick work of Riverside on Wednesday in the form of a 9-0, mercy-rule victory over the Knights at Choppy Wagner Stadium.

Controlling nearly all of the possession, the Pam Pack midfield negated the Riverside attack and held the visitors to no shots on goal. Washington scored seven goals in the first half and two quickly in the second, activating the nine-goal mercy rule.

Seniors William Tate, Freddy Jimenez and Kyle Hodges all finished with two goals apiece, while Rob Zerniak, Ben McKeithan and Jose Gamboa all scored one goal each.

With the win, Washington remains undefeated at 6-0 and will face Greene Central at home on Thursday.

 

SOUTHSIDE VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN THREE GAMES TO JONES SENIOR

TRENTON — The Southside volleyball team lost a close three-game match on Tuesday to Jones senior, 3-0.

In a back-and-forth first game, the Trojans narrowly edged the Seahawks, 28-26, needing a win-by-two tiebreaker to do so, before taking the second game by a commanding 10 points. Jones Senior closed out the match with a 25-23 win in Game 3.

With the loss, Southside falls to 3-5 (1-1 CPC) and will play host to Lejeune (2-5, 0-2 CPC) on Thursday.

 

WASHINGTON WOMEN’S TENNIS WINS FIRST MATCH OF SEASON OVER FARMVILLE CENTRAL

The Pam Pack women’s tennis team lost just five total games in a 9-0 rout of Farmville Central at home.

Washington’s No. 1, senior Danielle Duckwall, locked up a 8-1 pro-set victory over her opponent, while juniors Nechelle Everette and Sydney Lewis also won by the score of 8-1. Junior Logan Crisp, sophomore Mary Grace Wilder and sophomore Mary Belle Johnson all shut out their Jaguar opponents.

In doubles, Duckwall and Everette, and Lewis and Wilder, both locked up 8-1 match victories, while Crisp and Kelsi Waters took their match, 8-0.

With the win, Washington picks up its first match win of the season, improving to 1-3 (1-0 EPC). The Pam Pack will face Southwest Edgecombe in Pinetops on Thursday.
