Mr. Cheshire Josephus “Tobe” Parker Jr., age 89, a resident of 926 McCotters Marina Road, Washington, died Tuesday morning, April 26, 2016 at Rivertrace Nursing Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, officiated by Rev. Charles Smith.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Mark Leggett, John Al Asby, Scott Moore, Raymond Willis, Stanley Gurganus and Charles Whitehurst will serve as pallbearers.  Tommy Davis, Aubrey Moore, Jessie Elks, Larry Loving and Bill Croninger will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Parker was born in Wilson County on May 31, 1926, son of the late Cheshire Josephus Parker Sr. and Phrocine Latham Parker. He was a graduate of Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, NC. Mr. Parker was employed with Norfolk Southern Railway for 37 ½ years as station agent and telegraph operator. He loved fishing and anything related to the water. Mr. Parker served his country during World War II in the U.S. On July 21, 1951, he married the former Hazel Wells who preceded him in death on February 9, 2007.

Mr. Parker is survived by sons: Buddy Parker and wife Pam of Oxford, NC; Alton Parker and wife Audree of Bath; George Parker of Washington and Roy Lee Parker and wife Missy of Washington; his daughter-in-law: Emily Parker; his brother: Alton M. “Squeeky” Parker and wife, Liz of Burnet, TX; his grandchildren: Kimberly Bailliard and husband Antoine, Kelley Parker, Blake Parker, Graham Parker, Austin Parker, Jenna Guerrero and Chris St. Clair; his great-grandchildren: Luc Baillaird, Claire Bailliard, Michael Guerrero and Jacob Guerrero. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his son: Hal Tayloe Parker; his brothers: Kent Parker and Don Parker; and his sisters: Marion Harold and Mary Louise Eason.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to his caregivers: Teresa Woolard, Jackie Jones and Sara Wilson.

The family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of his son, Roy Parker, located at 112 Bath Circle, Washington.
