On Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Yellow Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia flava) is in bloom. Sometimes called Flycatcher or Huntsman’s Horn, they only occur on organic soils in full sunlight. Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants. Insects are attracted by the nectar, getting trapped in the pitcher when they slide down its slippery sides. Fluids inside the plant digest the insects. Yummy!
