Mitchel Roger Woolard

Mitchel Roger Woolard, 74, passed away on May 13, 2018. He was born to the late Sidney Ann Waters and Reuben Harold Woolard in Washington, NC, on May 14, 1943. Early in his career, he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post 6088. He was retired from Gilko Construction.

Mitchel was a vital member of First Christian Church of Washington. He was involved in the Forward Planning Committee, Disciple Sunday School Class, Peanut Crew, Christian Men’s Fellowship, Christians in Action and was also a past chairman of the properties committee. He was integral to the construction of the new church and served as its technical expert. His church family lovingly refers to the new church as “God’s house built by Mitch.”

Mitchel is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kim Vo Nguy-thi Woolard; his two daughters and their husbands, Catherine and Andrew Skobe, of New York City, and Cynthia and Gene Brown, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; his five grandchildren, Justin and Hannah Skobe and Mary Peyton, Sam and Lily Brown; his brother, Daryl Woolard; and his nephews, Terry and Christopher Woolard. Mitchel leaves behind his beloved cats, Gizmo, Justin and Jasmine.

Mitchel’s memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Christian Church of Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mitchel may be made to the First Christian Church, 307 E. Third St., Washington. Condolences may be shared on www.hillsidefunerals.com.
