GREENVILLE — The Washington Senior Babe Ruth baseball team reserved a spot in the semifinals of the Senior Babe Ruth League tournament, thanks to a 12-2 blowout win over North Pitt in six innings Monday evening.

Washington’s team, which is almost entirely made up with returning Pam Pack players, as well as a Pungo Academy player, opened the game by establishing a 3-0 lead in the first inning. North Pitt and Washington traded shots over the next couple of innings and at the close of the third, Washington held onto a 4-2 lead.

The turning point of the game was when North Pitt swapped pitchers in the fourth inning. What was a close game quickly turned into a blowout.

At first, North Pitt couldn’t find the strike zone resulting in several walks, including a walked-in run. Once North Pitt located the strike zone, Washington’s batters punished North Pitt with hits. On a night when all of Washington’s hitters contributed at the plate, Hunter Hall made perhaps the biggest impact. The Pam Pack’s rising senior came to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered with a double that cleared the bases and effectively won the game.

Starting pitcher Logan Everette earned the win for Washington, as the southpaw put in 4.1 innings of work on the mound. Tyler Rowe picked up the save, pitching the final 1.2 innings in relief of Everette.

Washington’s win sets up a showdown against Pitt County Kiwanis in the semifinals of the postseason tournament.
