Mrs. Betty Patton Bowen

Mrs. Betty Patton Bowen, age 80, a resident of 412 Fairview Ave., Washington Park, died Wednesday afternoon, November 28, 2007 at her home.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday December 2, 2007 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Sam Grist.
Mayor Tom Richter, Lloyd E. Fox, Senior Commissioner Horace Cowell, Commissioners Don Wilkinson, Zane Buckman and Jeff Peacock will serve as pallbearers. Mike Baker, George Gardner, Jo K. Smith and Dennie Dale will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Bowen was born in Knoxville, TN on August 7, 1927, daughter of the late Jack Patton and Nell Turner Patton. In May, 1949, she married Walter J. “Bo” Bowen, Jr. who survives. Mrs. Bowen was a member of the First Christian Church in Washington where she taught Sunday School. She was a den mother with the Cub Scouts. Mrs. Bowen worked with Doctors Rodman, Partrick and Stephenson. She later was employed with the Washington Daily News where she was instrumental in setting up the advertising system.
In addition to her husband, Walter “Bo” of the home, she is survived by her two sons: Lee Bowen and his wife, Cyndi of Washington Park and Michael Bowen and his wife, Laura of Wilmington; her three grandchildren: Christopher, Dylan and Beau Bowen; her grand dog: Tessa and her brother: Ed Patton of Knightdale. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister: Joan P. Wall.
The family will receive friends 2-2:45 p.m., one hour prior to the service on Sunday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or the charity of one’s choice.
