Eugene Worth Kirk

Eugene Worth Kirk, 80, local barber, of Beaufort, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Carteret Health Care, Morehead City.

His funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at 2 p.m., at Ann Street United Methodist Church, Beaufort, with the pastor, Rev. Taylor Mills, officiating. Interment will be on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Graveyard, Bath.

A self-made man, Kirk grew up in Bath, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Following in a family trade, he sent himself to barber school in Durham and was one of North Carolina’s Master Barbers. He was a member of Ann Street United Methodist Church and a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge 109, AS&AM.

Kirk loved his God, his family, his country and deeply appreciated his customers, friends and his community. He especially enjoyed living life and felt blessed in all ways.

Kirk is survived by his wife of 55 years, Harriette Whitehurst Kirk, his daughters and sons, Katherine K. Wooten and her husband, James, and Elizabeth K. Mason and husband Daniel; grandchildren, Jacob Worth Wright and Katherine Ivey Hudson Wright; brother, Ralph Kirk and his daughters, Deborah K. Flippo and Robin K. Vickers, and their families; brothers-in-law, William Whitehurst and wife Myrtle, Richard Leinthall and Donald Dinsmore. He is also survived by extended family, Brian and Mandy Wright, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home, 201 Professional Circle, Morehead City, on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knit and Pray Ministry, c/o Ann Street United Methodist Church, 417 Ann St., Beaufort, NC 28516.

Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory of Morehead City.
