Lady Pack smashes Greene Central in conference opener

WASHINGTON — Washington bounced back from Friday’s 28-point loss at Farmville Central with a dominant 68-36 home victory over Greene Central to open 2A Eastern Carolina Conference play on Tuesday.

Led by 20 points from Briasia Sommerville, the Pam Pack held a 32-13 lead at halftime and cruised from there. Washington had a balanced effort on offense, with 10 different players getting on the board. Arissa Kim’s 10 points were the team’s second0highest total, behind only Sommerville.

The conference win, which puts Washington’s record at 2-3, 1-0, is the first of three consecutive conference games for the Pam Pack, culminating with a game at North Lenoir tomorrow. Washington will take a break from conference play when it participates in South Central’s Christmas Tournament, which begins next Wednesday.

 

Lady Panthers dominated at home

PINETOWN — Opening 1A Coastal Plains Conference play with a home game, Northside was thoroughly outplayed in all facets of the game, falling to Riverside, 68-26.

It was a struggle from the very beginning, as the Panthers trailed, 23-9, after a quarter of play. It only got worse for Northside, as it never scored more than nine points in any quarter, and only scored three in the final period, thanks to a 3-pointer from Akeelah Moore. Gabby Slade finished with five points, all in the second, to lead the Panthers.

It was the second loss in a row for Northside, after falling to Washington last Friday. The Panthers will next head to Farmville Central tomorrow to take on the undefeated Jaguars.

 

Southside beat down by Vikings

TARBORO — Playing in only its second game of the season with a roster lacking any seniors, the Southside girls basketball team continued its slow start, losing on the road to Tarboro, 57-27.

The Seahawks showed improvement on defense, compared to its season-opening loss to Croatan, but Southside still had issues putting the ball in the basket. The Seahawks put up 54 shots against fellow CPC opponent Tarboro, but only sank seven shots.

Shantel Cannon managed to finish with 12 points to lead Southside, but seven of those points came from the free-throw line, where she was flawless on the night. Freshman Jasmine Blango scored nine points, while Sarah Petty added six.

After hosting Columbia yesterday, the Seahawks will host Bear Grass Charter tomorrow with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.

 

Pam Pack knocked down by Rams

WASHINGTON — Facing off against one of the favorites in the 2A Eastern Carolina Conference in Greene Central, Washington found out it still has some work to do, falling to the Rams at home on Tuesday, 77-51.

The Pam Pack was never really in the game, as it trailed 24-12 after the first quarter. Greene Central continued to turn the screws, increasing its lead every period of the game. Uriah Lawrence paced the Pam Pack with 18 points, but the senior didn’t receive much help from his teammates, as Jordi Barnes was the only other Washington player in double figures, with 10 points.

The Pam Pack will next play at North Lenoir on Friday, before taking part in Northside’s Christmas Tournament, where it will open with a game against Washington County next Wednesday.
