Myrtle Harris Whitfield

Mrs. Myrtle Harris Whitfield, 98, of Washington, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Care.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 2:30 p.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park, with Pastor Jim Reed officiating.

A native of Pitt County, Mrs. Whitfield was born to the late Oscar and Christchanna Garris Harris. She worked as an Administrative Assistant in the medical field for most of her working years. In her childhood years, she was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Washington.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitfield was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Whitfield, in 1997; daughter, Barbara Whitfield Stewart; son, Carl Edward Whitfield, Jr.; two grandchildren; four brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by: granddaughter, Wende Trew, of Wendell; great-grandsons, Spencer, Thomas and David Stewart; great-granddaughters, Carly and Brianna Trew and Madelyn Stewart; great-great-granddaughter, April Whitfield; two great-great-great-granddaughters; son-in-law, Ronald Stewart, of Williamsburg, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Gail Whitfield, of Spring Hope; special niece and care-provider, Helen McRoy, of Washington; and a host of loving nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service, at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
