Nancy Lou Respess Alligood

Mrs. Nancy Lou Respess Alligood, age 69, a resident of 1385 Magnolia School Road, Washington, died Thursday evening, March 7, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 10, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the First Church of Christ in Washington, officiated by Steve Hill.

Mrs. Alligood was born Feb. 25, 1950, daughter of the late Guy Bryant Respess and Edith Inez Kilby Respess. She was a 1968 graduate of Scotland Neck High School. Mrs. Alligood attended Elon College and ECU, where she received her teaching degree. She taught special needs children at P.S. Jones Middle School and was currently teaching at Farmville Central High School. On Aug. 26, 1972, she married Melvin Wayne Alligood. She was a member of First Church of Christ in Washington.

In addition to her husband, Wayne, of the home, she is survived by her children: Nicole Alligood Congleton and husband Brandon, of Stokes; Melissa Alligood Wright and husband John, of Raeford, and Amanda Alligood Robinson and husband Craig, of Washington; her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Nana:” Samuel Wright, Mallory Robinson, Bradley Wright, Christopher Wright, Miller Robinson, Hattie Congleton and Myra Robinson; and her sister, Patsy Lynne Respess, of Bath.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at the home of her daughter, Amanda and Craig Robinson, located at 109 Mallard Drive, Washington.
