Regular Refuge Resident: Whether you enjoy observing, photographing or hunting (during season), White-tailed Deer are found on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, as well all regional national wildlife refuges. The current North Carolina state White-tailed deer population is estimated near one million! They are herbivores and excellent swimmers. Best viewing times are dawn & dusk.
