Highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) is a shrub which blooms early in the growing season on the edge of forests and scrub-shrub wetlands. It’s the time of year when the white and pink bell-shaped flowers are on display throughout Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Bears, birds, deer and other wildlife love the fruit that these plants eventually produce.
