The Down East Seniors Club held their Nov. 6 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Charles Smith led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America” which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Fritz Tanner gave the invocation, and Ed Hamrick presented factoids for the date in history. Hackney and Tanner provided humor.

Smith introduced Bobby Hodges as the speaker. Hodges, president of Paul Funeral Home in Washington and Belhaven, spoke about pre-planning funeral arrangements. His staff will meet with anyone at no charge and guide them through the pre-planning process. This can cover as much or as little of the arrangements as the client desires. Two basic recommendations he stressed were to write your own obituary (as much as possible) and tell your family of your plans. Doing these can prevent many problems later.

At the Nov. 13 meeting, Mike Dail will speak about new construction in the central business district of Washington.

The Down East Seniors Club is a group of older men who meet Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. They enjoy fellowship and an interesting program. Guests are welcome.
