It is with a great deal of sorrow that we announce the death of our mother, Bennette Wilson Roberson, age 94, of Robersonville, on April 2, 2020. She was born in Beaufort County on March 21, 1926, to Tayloe and Ethel Gerard Wilson.

After high school, Mom traveled to New York City to attend the Barbizon School of Modeling. She was working as a salesmen’s model when Kenneth H. Roberson Sr. convinced her to return to North Carolina and marry him. Mom and Dad were married for 64 years. Their lives together were full of family life, farming work and all kinds of adventures until Dad passed away in 2012. Now they are together again.

Our Mom was active in all phases of her children’s lives. She loved to garden, read, travel and collect all types of things, especially dolls. She served as librarian at Martin Academy for a number of years. After we had all left home, she returned to her love of fashion. In 1982, she and her sister-in-law, Christine Hurst, opened a children’s clothing store, Kids Korner, in Robersonville. After a few years, she bought out Christine’s interest and moved across the street to a larger store. Many thanks to all her customers. She so enjoyed helping you “dress” your children in style. Kids Korner closed Feb. 9, 2011.

Mom is survived by her five children: daughters, Trudy Clark (Wayne), of Ocracoke, Joy Roberson (Dennis), of Bethel; sons, Ken (Vickie), Tim (Amy), Henry (Beverly), all of Robersonville. In addition, Mimi, as she was known in her role as grandmother, is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dot Egli, of Washington, Ann Schreiber (Georg), of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held. Condolences may be directed to the individual families. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.

We offer special thanks and appreciation to her caregivers: Pearl, Marnell and Pat. In addition, we would like to thank the Community Hospice staff and Dr. Pogodina. All of you showed our mom so much love and compassion.
