The doors of the Tyrrell County Social Services Department on North Road Street have been locked since March 31, but full services continue to be provided by the agency, reports Brandy Mann, director.

An outside drop box was installed, multiple application form holders are attached to the door, a doorbell was installed, staff members’ contact information is posted, and guidance on applying is available in English and Spanish, Mann stated.

Currently there are three ways to apply:

  1. Take a mail-in application home and mail it back in the stamped envelope.
  2. Fill out the profile information on the application, sign it, and put in in the drop box. A worker will complete the process with a telephone interview.
  3. Apply online atĀ epass.nc.gov.

A person who does not have a telephone or needs assistance can utilize the doorbell. Face-to-face interaction is being done in the conference room to limit exposure for clients and staff.

“If you or someone you know is interested in applying for benefits or just has questions, please contact Tyrrell County DSS at 252-796-3421,” Mann stated. “A receptionist will direct you to the person that can assist you.”
