Mrs. Minerva M. Beasley, age 84, a resident of Washington, died peacefully surrounded by family, Friday, May 22, 2020, at her home.

A graveside funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Rev. Greg Barmer.

Mrs. Beasley was born in Sampson County, daughter of the late Garland and Ara B. Matthews. She was a 1956 graduate of 71st High School in Fayetteville and continued her education at Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Winston-Salem. On July 5, 1955, she married Scott Beasley, who preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2019. As a nursing supervisor, she had worked 16 years at Beaufort County Health Department and 15 years in the hospital setting. Her favorite pastime was gardening in her flower beds and vegetable garden. Mrs. Beasley was a member of First Baptist Church in Washington.

Survivors include her children: Howard K. Beasley (Vickie), of Williamsburg, Virginia, Sandra B. Atkins (William), of Durham, and Terry L. Beasley (Sonja), of Chocowinity; her siblings, Lynette M. Parker (Bobby), Dale Matthews (Robbie) and Kenneth Matthews (Elizabeth), all of Fayetteville; a grandson, Will Atkins, of Hickory; great-granddaughter, Aniston Atkins; and extended family, Josh Ayers and Ethen Ayers. Mrs. Beasley was predeceased, along with her husband, Scott; by a daughter, Angela F. Beasley; and a grandson, Christopher Neal Beasley. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that any memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 113 N. Harvey St., Washington, NC 27889.
