Peggy Joyce Herring, 69, of Hampstead, N.C., died Friday, December 28, 2007, at her residence.
She was born in Washington, N.C., December 24, 1938, daughter of the late Mirton Cox and Letha Ormond Cox. Her husband, James “Jimmy” Dalley Herring and a sister, Dorothy Barron preceded her in death.
Mrs. Herring was a member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church and had been involved with many groups and committees at the church. She was also a member of the Pender County Democrats.
Surviving are her sons, David Glenn Mason and wife Vonda of Hampstead, N.C., and Gerald Keith Mason and wife Joy of Scotts Hill, N.C.; grandchildren, Zachary Mason, Caitlin Mason, Keelie Mason, Shelby Mason, and Gabrielle Mason; siblings, Helen Baynor, Mirton Cox, Margaret Amy, Elmer Cox, and Howard Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2007, at Scotts Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Phil Ortego, the Rev. Jimmy Suggs, and the Rev. Artie Odum. Interment will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park, Hampstead.
Pallbearers will be Jim Tyer, Steve Underwood, Tommy Todd, Jimmy Dixon, Don Cable, and Artie Odum.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2007, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel.
They wish to express special thanks to caregivers, Faith, Penny, and Karen for all the assistance and care given Mrs. Herring during her time of need.
