Number of coronavirus cases continues to climb

The coronavirus that struck last spring has claimed three lives in Tyrrell County out of 118 positive tests and 114 recoveries, the Martin-Tyrrell-Washington District Health Department reported Sunday night.

Martin County has lost 13 residents to the disease out of 519 cases and 439 recoveries, and Washington County has had eight fatalities out of 219 cases and 199 recoveries.

The health department reports that 20.8% of Tyrrell’s population has been tested for COVID-19, 27.8% of Martin County, and 35.9% of Washington County.

It also reported that 7.3% of individuals tested over the past two weeks in Tyrrell were positive, compared with 4.8% in Martin and 1.2% in Washington County.

Across the Tar Heel State health officials report 3,634 coronavirus deaths out of 217,496 total cases with 184,422 recoveries. Nationwide there have been 214,609 deaths out of 7.6 million cases with 4.8 million recoveries. The global death toll is now 1,041,537 out of 35.3 million cases with 26.6 million recoveries.
