William A. Thompson

William A. Thompson, was born in Aurora, N.C. on April 28, 1913. He married Frances Paul Thompson who died January 22, 1997. He was a loving and caring man who did all he could to make sure that he provided for his family. He was a career Army officer, entering the military shortly before World War II, and finally retiring after a distinguished 28 year career as Lieutenant Colonel at Fort Bragg, N.C. From the point of his retirement from the Army, he worked for the State of North Carolina in the Office of Civil Defense, retiring again, and lived in Raleigh until the time of his wife’s death. He moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and ultimately to a retirement home in Burlington, N.C., where he passed away on January 8, 2008 at the age of 94.
Surviving is a son, William A. Thompson, Jr. of Burlington, N.C.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary’s Street.
