Mildred Inez Everett Brooks, 93, formerly of Bath, N.C., passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at the Brian Center in Mooresville.
Born September 15, 1914 in Pinetown, Beaufort County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas and Sallie Lillian Webster Everett. She was a school secretary for 10 years. While a secretary, she went to summer school to earn her degree in education at East Carolina University where she graduated in 1963. At age 49, she taught her first class. She retired from teaching in 1980 from the Bath School System. She was a member of the N.C. Teachers Association and a member of the Bath Christian Church. She was an outstanding sports fan at Bath athletic events and an avid East Carolina University Pirate fan. She will always be famous for her cheese biscuits.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Honorable Ray Shavender Brooks, former Mayor of Bath; brothers, Robert Everett, Jr. and Warren Everett; and sister, Ruth Davis.
She is survived by her daughter, Lou Ellen Brooks Sullivan and husband, Leonard, of Mooresville; brothers, David Everett of Bath and William B. Everett and wife, Meletha of Brandon, FL; grandchildren, Leonard H. Sullivan, Jr. and wife, Deborah Smith Sullivan; Larry Keith Sullivan and wife, Tammie Meadows Sullivan; Lee Brooks Sullivan and wife, Sandra Westmoreland Sullivan; great grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth, Timothy, Leonard III, Theodore, Jenna and Braelyn.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 9 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. A Memorial Service will be celebrated following the visitation at 12 (noon) p.m. in the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Green officiating. A Memorial Service will also be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 16 at the Bath Christian Church, 105 S. Harding Street, Bath, N.C. with the Rev. Curtis White officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
