Mr. Don Carrow Sawyer

Mr. Don Carrow Sawyer, 68, of 143 Riverside Road, Washington, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Beaufort County Hospital.
A graveside funeral service will be held at High Noon, Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Oakdale Cemetery with The Rev. Don Wiesner officiating. Aubrey Moore, Hal Parker, Roy Parker, Fred Willis, Ansil MacMillan and Bill Paulson will serve as pallbearers. The Board Members of the Washington Yacht and Country Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2008 at Hillside Funeral Service and other times at his home.
Don was born August 27, 1939 in Beaufort County, son of the late Virginia Carrow Sawyer and Bennie Franklin Sawyer. In 1962, he married the former Betsy Patrick. Don served in the U.S. Army and in 1969, he went to work as a sales representative for American Tobacco Co. He worked his way up to District Sales Manager and retired from the company January 11, 1995. After retirement, he helped his son at Flemings Front End Service until cancer struck in 2007. Don put up a long, hard fight.
Don was an avid boater. He served as Commodore of the Washington Yacht Club for three years and on the board for eight years. He was on the Board of Directors of the Washington Yacht and Country Club, where he worked very hard for the betterment of the club. It was his passion.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy Patrick Sawyer; his son, Don Sawyer, Jr.; grandchildren, Sarah Catherine Sawyer and Don Sawyer, III; his brother, Terry Sawyer and wife, Alida of Washington; nephews, T.J. Sawyer and wife, Jamie of Greenville and Matthew and Daniel Sawyer of Washington; and his father-in-law, Dennis W. Patrick and wife, Joyce of Greenville.
