Mr. Raymond Louis “Poor Boy” Phelps Jr., 68, of Roper, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Washington County Hospital, Plymouth.
A graveside funeral with Masonic Rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Azalea Memorial Gardens, Columbia.
Mr. Phelps was born Aug. 17, 1939, in Tyrrell County. His parents were the late Raymond L. and Mildred Clifton Phelps Sr. He was a retired pipefitter with Weyerhaeuser Co. and was a member of Holly Neck Church of Christ. He was a former fingerprint specialist with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Phelps was a member of Perseverance Lodge No. 59.
Survivors include his wife, Alyce Snell Phelps of Roper; four daughters, Kathy P. Clark of Roper, Ricki P. Shorkey of Ft. Collins. Colo., Cindy P. Young of Washington and Amanda M. Phelps of Roper; a son, David L. Phelps of Creswell; a sister, Debra P. Ringold of New Bern; a brother, James H. Phelps of Roper; 11 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta P. Elliott.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell, and other times at the home.
