Earlie Warden Gibbs, 99, longtime resident of North Lake Road, Fairfield and more recently residing in Goldsboro, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Brookdale-Sterling House in Goldsboro.
Born in Hyde County, October 11, 1908, he was the son of the late John and Cora G. Gibbs. He farmed for many years and later worked with the N. C. Department of Corrections. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and since moving attended the Church of Christ in Goldsboro.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Leon Williams and Phil Emmert will officiate. Burial will follow in the Robert Gibbs Family Cemetery on North Lake Road.
Surviving are his wife, Emily Inez Gibbs; a step-son, Donald Gibbs of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Mavis Gibbs of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Stella Ann Campbell and Nellie Benting; step-grandchildren, Cliff Gibbs, Cameron Gibbs, Melanie Gates and Carol Pereira.
Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death by daughters, Linda G. Westfall and Sherry Ann Gibbs; brothers, Merle Gibbs and Robbie Gibbs; sisters, Hattie Armstrong and Lavada Hudson.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter on Friday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
