Mrs. Nellie “Nell” W. Smith, 82, of Tarboro, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at Golden Living Center in Tarboro.
A graveside service was held April 10, 2008, at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, with the Rev. Caswell Shaw officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born in Washington on Oct. 9, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Heber Gray Winfield Sr. and Elizabeth Kelly Winfield. She taught high school for more than 25 years in business education at Chocowinity High School and Tarboro Edgecombe Academy. She was married to James Bryant Smith Sr., who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, James Bryant Smith Jr. of Tarboro and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Eunice Perry Winfield; one brother, Heber Gray Winfield Jr. and one sister, Elizabeth Winfield Winfield.
Arrangements were by Massey Funeral Home, Enfield.
