Sister remembers his work

Susie Stowe said her brother died and made a name for himself as an honored fallen firefighter.
Her brother, Willie Macon Price, 58, died Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006, while on duty as a firefighter with the Jamesville Volunteer Fire Department.
She said Jamesville always had a fire truck ready for service at the fireworks celebration and it turned out that her brother was the firefighter on call that Easter two years ago.
Price had been a member of the fire department for 28 years.
Gardner said Price was reliable about answering fire calls and attending meetings at the fire department.
When the fire alarm sounded in the community when he was a child, she said he would find the fire engine, run behind it and would always go to the fire.
Stowe is especially proud of the state and national honors that have been given to her family in memory of Price.
In May 2007, the N.C. Fallen Firefighters Foundation memorialized firefighters who had died in the line of duty during the year.
She said a flag, a miniature cross monument and a certificate given to the family by the state organization meant so much to her family for Price’s sacrifice.
Stowe went to Maryland in October 2007 to attend events memorializing her brother on the national stage.
President George W. Bush hugged Stowe and told her how proud he was of her brother.
