Mrs. Gertrude Brickhouse Davenport, 95, of 177 Riverneck Road, Columbia, died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Chowan Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Edenton.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Soundside Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Wynns and Dr. Jeff Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Davenport was born June 9, 1912 in Tyrrell County, daughter of the late Levin and Sarah Mann Brickhouse. She was a member of Frying Pan Free Will Baptist Church.
She was married to Clarence M. Davenport who preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Walter Davenport and Ray Davenport, both of Columbia; four daughters, Louise D. Sawyer and Fay D. Boyd, both of Columbia, Annette D. Reynolds of Creswell and Nan D. Combs of Hertford; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick Boyd; three brothers, Dallas Brickhouse, Bennie M. Brickhouse and Willie Brickhouse and three sisters, Eloise Weston, Juanita Koon and Dorothy Honeycutt.
The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Soundside Missionary Baptist Church.
