Hilda P. Brown 1928 – 2008

Hilda Pugh Brown, 79, of 209 Main Street, Swan Quarter, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Beaufort County Hospital following surgery.
Born in Lake Landing Township, August 30, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Jackson and Willie O’Neal Pugh. She graduated from the former Engelhard High School and was valedictorian of her class. She was a long time member of Providence United Methodist Church which later merged as a part of Soule United Methodist Church where she had also been faithful. She was an active part of United Methodist Women and was active in the former Extension Homemaker’s organization. She was known by many for her giving spirit and found great joy in helping worthy causes and people. She was married to Thaddeus Brown, Jr. who preceded her in death.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the family plot in Soule Cemetery. Pastor J. H. Daniels will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Metcalf, Marshall Gill, Brandon Cutrell, Blake Cutrell, Joey Weatherly, Chad Marshall, Eric Sadler and Ray Stotesberry.
Surviving are a son, Lawrence C. Gill and wife, Mary of Swan Quarter; two daughters, Geraldine Weatherly and husband, Keith and Vicky Cutrell and husband, Stevie both of Fairfield; a sister, Gertrude Carawan of the Gull Rock Community; grandchildren, Stephanie Marshall, Brandon Cutrell, Amy Sadler, Michelle Stotesberry, Blake Cutrell, Karen Metcalf, Marshall Gill, Michael Metcalf, Heather Gill and Joey Weatherly; great grandchildren, Deanna Marshall, Kara Marshall and Kaegan Sadler.

The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service on Thursday evening, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of Larry and Mary Gill, Academy Street in Swan Quarter.
