John L. Chambers, 61, of Wilson died Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. R. Morgan Daughety will officiate.
He worked in the Wilson tobacco industry for over 32 years and served five years in the Coast Guard during the Vietnam era.
Mr. Chambers is survived by his wife, Diane B. Chambers; two daughters, Kristy L. Chambers of Garner and Sarah Chambers Pankop and husband, Ashley L. of Norfolk, Va.; a granddaughter, Audrey Diann Pankop; four sisters, Alva Lilley of Creswell, Rae Wetherington of Washington, Betty Jo Stanfield of Raleigh and Lou Jean Long of Greensboro; two brothers, Jim Chambers of Kinston and Travis Chambers of Delaware.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Ray Chambers and Effie Waters Chambers.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and at other times at the home.
