CHOCOWINITY — After getting off to a slow start on their first two possessions during their passing league game against North Pitt, the Southside Seahawks showed considerable improvement on their next few snaps; and right now that is all the coach David Hines is looking for.
The Seahawks’ first-team offense looked out of sync early, as it was intercepted twice at the start of the scrimmage Tuesday at Southside High School. However, quarterback Kevin Sparks was able to settle down and completed some nice passes as the game continued.
On defense, Southside followed the same trend. There were some mix-ups here and there, but as time went on there was some progress.
After going through the 2007 season winless, Hines, the Seahawks’ second-year coach’s most pressing desire is to see day-to-day improvement from his team.
While Hines is all about winning, he also genuinely wants to see his team have a good time while playing football, and believes the two are connected. A happy team is a productive team.
So far he has like the enthusiasm from his squad.
Throughout the game the Seahawks show signs of potential, and Hines said there were a few players that caught his eye.
Hines said he also liked the effort of the guys on the other side of the ball.
