Mr. Charles Bryan “C.B.” Latham, Sr., age 76, a resident of 2752 Long Ridge Road, Pinetown, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by D. J. Maxey. Burial will follow in Gurkin Family Cemetery, Long Ridge Road, Pinetown.
Mr. Latham’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Bryan Spence, Joe Brown III, Jaramy Burrus, Tracy Ambrose, Travis Ambrose, Charles Latham and David Latham. Noah Ambrose and Wyatt Brown will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Latham was born in Pinetown on January 9, 1932. He was the son of the late Bryant Latham and Flora Thomas Latham. Mr. Latham was a retired sawyer with Edinburg Hardwood Industries with over 40 years of service. He was a member of the Five Points Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Latham farmed as a young man and loved to garden and work with lumber. He helped raise his siblings and cared for his father. Mr. Latham raised Walker Deer Hounds, loved to hunt and was known as “Deadeye” in his hunting club. He loved to sing, watch tennis and girls softball on TV and was a good neighbor.
On November 18, 1950, Mr. Latham married the former Helen Gurkin, who preceded him in death, December 28, 2002.
Survivors include his children, Lois “Rita” Latham Brown and her husband, Joe of Pinetown, the Rev. Charles B. Latham, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Chocowinity, Lillian “Lee” Latham Spence and her husband, Billy of New Bern, Susan “Sue” Latham Ambrose and her husband, Don of Pinetown; his grandchildren, Joseph F. Brown III and his friend, Leslie Waters, Lou Brown Firth, Melissa Spence Bremiller and her husband, S/Sgt Dwayne Bremiller, Ira Bryan Spence and his wife, Amy Wheeler Spence, Charles Daniel Latham and his wife, Sheena Davis Latham, Petty Officer 3rd Class John David Paul Latham, Jessica Susan Latham, Jaramy Scott Burrus, Tracy Allen Ambrose, Roxann Ambrose Lewis and her husband, S/Sgt Floyd Lewis, Travis Latham Ambrose, Noah Charles Ambrose; and his great-grandchildren, Kenly Thomas Bremiller, Haley Leigh Bremiller, Kyelee Helen’a Bremiller, Wesley Avery Lawrence Bremiller, Wyatt Andrew Brown, Genesis Marie Latham, Calista Simone Latham, Austin Kelly Spence, Brianna Nicole Spence, and Brandon Dale Spence.
Mr. Latham is also survived by two brothers, Del Latham and his wife, Kay of Washington and James Robert Latham and his wife, Margaret of Orange Park, FL.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Latham was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Cayton Allen Latham; three sisters, Catherine Latham Matthews, Glennie Latham Britt, and Eleanor Latham Woolard; and two brothers, W. A. “Sonny” Latham and Leonard Lee Latham.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of his daughter, Susan Ambrose, 2456 Long Ridge Road, Pinetown.
