The Purpose of God Annex, under the direction of Bishop Samuel Jones Jr. and Mother Regina Jones, concluded its 2008 summer program just before school started Monday.
However, the bishop said summer can sometimes be a time when a child becomes disinterested in learning in an academic setting.
Regina Jones said the program included daily practice, spelling bees and reading short stories.
But, the bishop said, the program finds time for recreation, too.
Program participants also took trips to Brooks Pool.
Other places of interest that program participants journeyed to were the Turnage Theater, the Bobby Andrews Center, River Park North and the Greenville Grand weekly movies.
She said that includes disadvantaged and/or at-risk youngsters. She said the organization also reaches out to adults and families.
The bishop said the annex provides programs and services that improve overall well- being of participants, functioning and quality of life through participation in programs that promote educational, pre-employment, vocational, personal, spiritual, athletic and cultural enrichment and development.
The Joneses said they will continue to work with schools in Beaufort County throughout the 2008-2009 school year.
