Beaufort County Schools honored the best of their teachers and administrators during the annual Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year Banquet Thursday night at Washington High School.
Each of this year’s winners came from south of the river. Chocowinity Primary School teacher Penny Miller was selected as 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year. She will go on to compete in the regional competition.
The Principal of the Year honors went to Dale Cole from Chocowinity Middle School. The runner-up went to veteran principal, Bubs Carson from J.C. Taylor Elementary School in Washington.
Teachers from each school chose a peer to be a Teacher of the Year candidate. The candidates then participated in an interview process and had to complete the portfolio used for the North Carolina Teacher of the Year competition.
The portfolios and interviews were scored and top scores received the honors.
The Principal of the Year candidates participated in an interview process similar to that of the teachers. Staff members of the eligible principals completed anonymous surveys, which were calculated as a portion of the final score.
