A parking lot at Cherry Run Center off 15th Street in Washington was the scene of a drug bust by Washington police officers late last Thursday night.

Three people were arrested: Justin Michael Lockamy, 20, of Robersonville, was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin, conspiracy to sell or deliver heroin, possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia; James Allen Whitaker Jr., 32, of Greenville, was charged with conspiracy to sell or deliver heroin, possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia; and Jessica Nicole Savage, 21, of Stokes, was charged with conspiracy to sell or deliver heroin, possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Lt. William Chrismon, spokesman for the Washington Police Department, said the amount of heroin seen the in area is on the upswing.

“We have seen a recent increase in arrests throughout Eastern North Carolina, not only in Washington, and we are trying to keep a more aggressive enforcement of this type of drug due to that increase,” he explained. “It does appear that recently a lot of (heroin) is coming from Greenville or Pitt County and we are working regularly to share information with agencies from Pitt County.”
