To the Editor:

It appears that the North Carolina Republican Legislature, under the leadership of Tom TillIs, has reached new levels of insurgency against the working poor and middle class. Each day the public awaits new lows to be spewed from the chambers to make life less comfortable for constituents whose purses are not lined with support dollars. The working class is expected to exist on minimum wages, with no raises in sight, teachers are required to holler “uncle” if they want a raise, Medicare is being cut, school funding is being diminished, state university programs are being underfunded and cut, the public protests are ignored, and the universities are under threat of absolution. The plethora of oppressive measures seems to be in a continuous steam. One has to beg the question, when will it end? We are fast becoming the face of a state that replaces Mississippi in social, education and fiscal rankings. Is this where we want to be?
