A Blounts Creek man was arrested and charged with five counts of trafficking in opiates for allegedly selling prescription pain medication during controlled purchases by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office drug unit.

Christopher George Furman, 42, of 65 Red Bug Point Drive, Blounts Creek, was arrested on July 18, when investigators served arrest warrants after a traffic stop. At the time, Furman had Oxycodone, a schedule II controlled substance, Xanax, a schedule IV controlled substance and marijuana on him, according to a press release from the drug unit.

“He was using multiple different sources, suppliers and was actively involved in putting prescriptions on the street,” said a spokesman for the drug unit. “This is an example of someone who was trying to profit off of supply and the demand in Beaufort County. There’s a lot of demand.”

Furman was arrested and charged with five counts of trafficking in opiates, two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, possession of less than half ounce of marijuana, possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Furman was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $55,000 secured bond.

Wilbert O’Neal

Controlled buys of cocaine orchestrated by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office drug unit landed a Pantego man in jail on July 21.

Wilbert O’Neal, 31, of 371 N.C. Highway 99 North, Pantego, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, said a press release from the drug unit.

According to a spokesman for the drug unit, O’Neal has a long history of drug arrests, but it was complaints from people in his community that put him on the drug unit’s radar in this case.

O’Neal was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
