ENGLEHARD — Construction is well underway at the Wysocking Wildlife Sanctuary as the No. 1 Impoundment Observation Blind is being prepared for visitors. The No. 1 observation blind will be for bird watchers, photographers and outdoor enthusiasts. There will be no hunting. The observation blind will accommodate at least six adults or four wheel chairs with a handicap ramp/walk to the blind from the impoundment trail. Other accommodations include a photographers’ accessory shelf, fold down benches and a wide view of impoundment No. 1. Golf carts will be also available to assist visitors to the blind. Rails and additional safety features are being added.

The impoundment will fill quickly with waterfowl as the weather cools down in autumn. You will see eagles, hawks, egrets, herons, teal, mallards, geese, swan, shovel bills and many more varieties of waterfowl and shorebirds. Once the temperatures drop, birds and other wildlife pile in to get their fair share of the corn that is scattered over the impoundment. Corn is spread over the water frequently. Spaces are expected to fill so reserve your seat early. Ask about special promotions for your group. Call the Wysocking Wildlife Sanctuary at 252-925-1200 for more information. Donations are accepted to help cover the cost of corn to feed the waterfowl. You may wish to find out more about the bear observation stations coming soon.
