WEB-WPD HALLOWEENBy Elizabeth Tankard

Did you know that October is home to “National Friends of Libraries Week”? Brown Library wouldn’t be the thriving and vital community center it is without the support and enthusiasm of the Friends of the Brown Library group. Just in time to celebrate, the Friends of North Carolina Public Libraries has announced its Volunteer of the Year awards, and our very own Ginny Warren has won for the Northeast area. Congratulations Ginny, and thank you for all of your years of donated time and dedication.

Calling all witches and vampires, goblins and ghosts! You are invited to attend our annual Halloween Program at Brown Library. Put on your scariest costume and join us on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event is for ages 5 to 12 with an accompanying adult. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. There is no sign-up to attend the program. For more information, contact Terry Rollins at 946-4300.

Are you for the light, or the dark? Are you an elegant fae, or a terrifying zombie? Join Brown Library on Halloween afternoon for a special teen event, featuring costumes, makeup tutorials, and snacks on Halloween, Oct. 31, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Come and get your makeup done before heading out for Halloween celebrations! Attendees will partner up and enjoy either a basic wound/horror makeup tutorial, or a glittery, faerie-inspired beauty makeup. Attendees are encouraged to dress up for the event. We will have prizes for the top three costumes, but in order to be eligible, costumes must be related to books in some way. Use your favorite books as inspiration. For examples of costumes and makeup, check out our Facebook page at http://facebook.com/GeorgeHLauraEBrownLibrary. This event is for ages 12 – 18. Sign-up is required to attend. Please call 252-946-4300 to reserve your spot.
