From Hyde County Board of Education

Golden LEAF Foundation President Dan Gerlach presented the Hyde County Board of Education with an award check for the amount of $200,000 on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. in the Information Highway room at Mattamuskeet Early College High School in Swan Quarter.

The Golden LEAF grant award supports the implementation of the Hyde County Schools 1:1 Chromebook Initiative. This innovative project provides personal technology to every Hyde County Schools middle, high school and early college student in grades 6-13 enrolled at Mattamuskeet Early College High School in Swan Quarter and Ocracoke School located on Ocracoke Island. The Golden LEAF award also generously supports state-of-the-art professional development in digital learning and coaching to all Hyde County Schools teachers working with students in grades 6-13 and is provided by faculty members from the Friday Institute at North Carolina State University.

“The Golden LEAF Foundation supports programs that demonstrate promise in growing the talent, knowledge and skills of our youth, especially in the rural areas of our state,” said Gerlach. “The Hyde County Schools’ project is dedicated to transforming their classrooms into 21st-century, digital-learning environments. The implementation of this program will provide Hyde County Schools with Chromebooks for students in grades 6-13 and prepare teachers to effectively utilize technology to improve teaching and learning, so that all students are prepared to graduate ready for college or careers.”
