A local husband and wife songwriting team are getting digital play across the world with their new video “Hero.”

William and Nannette Garrett’s latest recordings are paying off:  released last week, “Hero,” a tribute to U.S. veterans and active duty servicemen and -women, is being heard on stations in the United Kingdom and New Zealand and is currently in the No. 5 place in the Top 10 for Radio Indie Alliance on Sword Radio UK. A September release, “The Island,” also made the playlist on stations in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canada and many U.S. states, according to Nannette Garrett.

The couple has been performing and recording together for decades, but formed their current band, GARRETT, in 2005. With William Garrett on guitar and vocals and Nannette Garrett on bass and vocals, with the assistance of drummers Ted Etheridge and Jason Patterson on various tracks, the band with a “retro rock” sound plans to release their new CD, “Believe” in the near future.

“We have been working on recording our songs the last year and currently focusing all our efforts on that and finishing up more songs while promoting ‘HERO’ to radio,” Nannette Garrett said.

“Hero,” however, that has special meaning for them.

“William wrote ‘Hero’ in 2014 because his dad was in Korea,” Nannette Garrett said. “The video is our tribute to the troops and has pictures of local and regional active military and veterans.”

Nannette Garrett said the editor of the video, John Furlough, combed through more than 300 photographs of soldiers to get the right feel for the video.

The Garretts have been gratified that military personnel have made a point of reaching out to them to say they love the video, Nannette Garrett said.

The video can be viewed on YouTube at YouTube.com/garrettboys and the single purchased on iTunes. For more information about the band and their music, visit Facebook.com/OfficialGarrett.
