To the Editor:
Thank you, Hyde County. A number of Red Cross volunteers were assigned to open and close a shelter at the Ponzer Community Center in Hyde County after Hurricane Irene struck the area. During our stay in your community, we were given the opportunity to meet and work with several people in your area.
Our thanks go out to Mac Gibbs and the entire county disaster team for their help in making our stay more enjoyable. We would also like to give a special “thank you” to Marilyn Tyer of Ponzer. Marilyn was a shining light for volunteers in the shelter. Her home-baked goodies and much=needed laundry service for the volunteers were so very appreciated.
Your community was extremely helpful during our brief stay, and we just wanted to let you know how much we all appreciated your kindness. To the Editor:
People with roof damage and electricity need to be aware of out-of-town workers. Some will do good work, and some will not. Those left with the bad jobs will have to get someone else to make repairs, as the others have left the area.
