FalseHOOD: 1/18/12

To the Editor:

This is in reference to the Tuesday article titled, “PTRF weighs in on mine.”  I can’t believe Hood Richardson said Blount’s Creek is fresh water; not even brackish. That is a total falsehood! Just because he is a surveyor and engineer, and he tries to establish credibility by saying, “I’m in the business,” and, “I spent 25 years doing this. I do mine permits,” it does not make him a biologist with any understanding of the characteristics of a brackish estuary.

I challenge him to come out here today and measure the salinity in the creek. I’ll also be happy to show him many pictures of the blue crabs, flounder and red drum I’ve routinely caught in Blount’s Creek over the years. In addition, I always catch spot and speckled trout fishing from the bank, and I catch shrimp in my cast net. I catch them here every season. Do you really think these species would show up in fresh water?

Hood, get your facts straight before making public statements under the auspices of authority. You’ve lost my support in this county.
