Veterinary hospitals stay busy

To the Editor:
In just a few days, it will be February, a very busy month for the three veterinary hospitals in the county. Once again, they are offering reduced spay/neuter procedures, and we are hoping that this will be the busiest ever. Last year, 484 animals were spayed or neutered during the campaign and we are hoping to greatly increase this number this year.
The best thing pet owners can do for their pets is to have them spayed or neutered. The animal will be healthier, and males will be less likely to roam. Beaufort County has an abundance of homeless animals, and there is absolutely no need for new puppies and kittens being born. Just this past year, the animal-control officers had to euthanize 1,319 animals simply because they were not wanted. What a wonderful thing it would be if that number could go down.
In addition to the reduced cost offered by the three veterinary hospitals, the Humane Society of Beaufort County, 946-1591, is offering financial assistance.
Please call either Chocowinity Veterinary Hospital at 946-9000, Pamlico Animal Hospital at 946-2834 or Tar River Animal Hospital at 946-2417. All three are taking reservations now.
