BCCC to offer seminars for job-seekers

The Human Resources Development Program in the Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College will offer a series of six seminars in January and February for job seekers. The seminars are designed for individuals who are unemployed, have received notice of a pending layoff or are underemployed and need to hone their job-search, interview, resume-building and communication skills.
The registration fees for each seminar is $65; however, the fee for any of these seminars may be waived for those participants who are currently unemployed, have received notice of a pending layoff, are working and eligible for the Federal Income Tax Credit or are working and earning wages at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
The instructor is Beth Buck. The seminars, to be held in Room 822 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus are as follows:
uJob Search Clinic: This seminar is for those having trouble knowing where to look for a job. It will provide information on job-search techniques and the right places to look for a job. The seminar will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 15 and 17.
uJob Applications and Resumes: This clinic is for those who need help in completing a job application. Students will be given the chance to download from the Internet, print and complete job applications in class. The seminar will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 22 and 24.
uJob Interview Clinic: This seminar will help participants with job interview techniques. Many topics will be discussed regarding the “dos” and “don’ts” of job interviews. If time allows, students will be able to participate in mock interviews. The seminar will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 29 and 31.
uLooking on the Bright Side: This workshop will teach participants techniques for maintaining a positive attitude. Students will learn how a positive attitude and staying focused during a job search will carry over to employment. The seminar will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 5 and 7.
uTime Management Clinic: In this workshop, students will learn how to manage their time, set achievable goals and have a better understanding of managing their job searches. It will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 12 and 14.
uCommunication – the Key to Success: This workshop will help students develop the communication skills that local employers need in today’s job market. It will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 19 and 21.
