As social media technology grows, businesses are looking to grow with it. On Wednesday afternoon, the Small business Center at Beaufort County Community College welcomes mobile marketing expert Martin Brossman to campus.
Brossman has been training small businesses about networking and technology since 1982 and is the featured speaker at the event.
“He has been a presenter for us for nearly six years,” said Lentz Stowe, director of small business center at Beaufort County Community College. “He is a known commodity for me as a director and other directors from around the state.”
BCCC was able to get Brossman to travel from Raleigh because he is connected with the small business center network with the community colleges around North Carolina.
Brossman will be discussing the importance of how a small business website looks on a smart phone or tablet. He is also going to talk about using QR Codes, apps and placing and tracking mobile ads.
“The way I describe it, is imaging an invisible dome around your town,” Brossman said. “On the dome are different reviews from review sites and outsiders are making decisions looking at their mobile phones on whether to spend money in your town and generally they are doing that based on review sites.”
He will also teach small business owners the importance of having a website that is easy to see using mobile technology.
“From a small business prospective with social media its gives opportunities to appear bigger than you are,” Stowe said. “In some ways that can be very attractive to customers.”
“He is a subject expert in terms of social media,” said Stowe. “The reason we’re working on this one is because it is a perceived need in this area.”
Stowe recommends this class to those who might be unsure about using social media as a business tool.
“It’s one of those things that might cause some folks to think more about this (social media),” Stowe said.
Brossman has taught his methods of Internet communications like blogging, podcasts and online networking training since 2006. He also talks to business owners about using new technology at a lower cost.
“If you had a choice between a free website first or a free listing on on top of Google or Siri on somebody’s phone, you need to set that up first to make money,” said Brossman. “You have to monitor that for your reputation, and to me that is a higher priority and second thing would be to set up a website.”
The presentation begins at 2 p.m., Wednesday in Building 8 Auditorium and will conclude at 5 p.m. To register call Eva Peartree at 252-940-6375.
“He is one of those presenters that from an educational standpoint is almost like drinking water from a fire hydrant,” Stowe said. “It is a lot of information for a very short seminar.”
