With Hurricane Arthur barreling north along the East Coast, many Washington residents have began prepping for the storm on Thursday morning.
Ace Hardware owner Rich Robinson said his store has sold batteries and flashlights to several customers on Thursday.
“We haven’t sold any plywood or generators yet because it hasn’t become extreme yet,” Robinson said. “We haven’t had any requests for generators either.”
Food Lion assistant store manager Jason Everett said, sales on Thursday were a combination of Fourth of July and hurricane. Everett said he couldn’t; tell whether people were shopping for the holiday or hurricane.
“I think people here are used to hurricanes probably and so that doesn’t bother them, so they’re buying stuff to cookout,” Everett said.
Several Walmart shoppers on Thursday were not worried about the storm either. Sarah Watkins one of them. She was purchasing supplies for a hurricane party.
“I bought a Slip and Slide to play on while it rains and until we have some lightning,” Watkins said. “I also bought some alcohol to drink during the storm as well.”
Walmart store manager Jason Perry said he thought more people were buying more for the holiday.
“I am not really prepping for the storm,” said Wendy Jackson, a Walmart customer. “I think this one is just gonna be easy.”
