Restaurant hosts dinners with a side of comedy

Four comedians will hit the stage during “Showtime at the Apollo’s Steakhouse” on Saturday evening, starting at 9 p.m.

The comedy show features all North Carolina natives and will be hosted by Matt White, who is originally from Hertford. Earlier this month, White, no stranger to Washington, recently hosted a comedy show at the Turnage Theater that featured Andy “Big A” Forrester.

“The comedians all have their own style and Eric Shouse is the one that puts this all together for us,” said Angel Borg, owner of Apollo’s Steakhouse.

Every month over the last year — since Apollo’s has been in business — Borg’s restaurant has hosted a comedy event.

Borg said when they first began doing the comedy shows the audiences didn’t care for the raunchy style. Shouse has since coached the comedians to tone down their acts when they are on stage in Washington, according to Borg.

“He (Shouse) has taught them to do cleaner family stuff,” Borg said. “Sometimes it’s innuendoes, in your face, but definitely for mature audiences.”

“If you have dinner and watch the show, it’s better to make reservations — that way you have a good seat, and a nice dinner and a show,” Borg said. “You can certainly come at the door at the time of the show.”

Tickets for the show can be purchased at Apollo’s Steakhouse on 228 Stewart Parkway in advance. Tickets are $8 per person. Borg recommends audience members make dinner reservations by calling 252-833-4604.
