As we start the new year, we want to thank all those who made this the best holiday shopping season we’ve had in many years. Our neighbors on Main Street report the same. Much of this was due to the fine promotional activities of the Washington Daily News, the Chamber, the Washington Harbor District Alliance and others, and for that support we are grateful. We also noticed this year that people have finally been convinced not only of the economic advantages of “Shop Local,” but also that coming downtown on a crisp and bright Friday night to enjoy the lights of the season is much more conducive of holiday spirit than is fighting the crowds at the mall. We’ve got downtown shops with a fine and eclectic selection of items, as well as owner-operators who know (and care) about what they sell. It’s a winning combination for all.
